OPPORTUNITY
The Alternate General Manager (AGM) will be responsible for the strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Las Naves Mine, with a primary focus on the construction of an open-pit mine and a polymetallic processing plant. Reporting directly to the Mine General Manager, the AGM will drive project development, stakeholder relations, and operational efficiency while ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires a strong leader with extensive experience in open-pit mine construction, mineral processing plant development, and project execution, as well as fluency in Spanish.
THE MINE
The El Domo-Curipamba project, located in the Las Naves canton of Bolívar province, Ecuador, is a high-grade copper-gold initiative acquired by Silvercorp Metals Inc. through its acquisition of Adventus Mining Corporation. The project encompasses a volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposit, notable for its rich concentrations of copper, gold, and other base metals. In July 2024, the project received the final major approval required for full-scale construction to commence. The development plan outlines an initial 10-year open-pit mining operation, with potential for a subsequent five-year underground phase. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2025, aiming for production to start by the end of 2026.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE
Strategic Leadership
u Collaborate with the GM to define and implement the organization's long-term strategic vision.
u Develop and oversee the execution of actionable goals aligned with corporate objectives.
u Monitor progress toward strategic milestones and adjust tactics as needed.
u Serve as one of the organization’s principal representatives in Ecuador, supporting global operations.
Project Development & Construction
u Lead the construction process for the open-pit mine and polymetallic processing plant, ensuring compliance with environmental, regulatory, and community requirements.
u Oversee studies conducted by independent engineering firms to facilitate financing and development.
u Manage and coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities to ensure seamless project execution.
u Develop and implement construction schedules, ensuring timely and cost-effective project completion.
u Negotiate and manage service, procurement, and development contracts with contractors and suppliers.
Operational Oversight
u Oversee field operations in Ecuador, ensuring adherence to construction and commissioning timelines.
u Assess and report on construction performance, identifying and resolving challenges proactively.
u Develop and implement cost control, risk management, and operational efficiency initiatives.
u Manage operational budgets to ensure the construction project is completed on time and within budget.
u Establish and enforce safety protocols to protect employees and the environment.
Relationship Building & Stakeholder Engagement
u Build and maintain strong relationships with government institutions, community representatives, and industry stakeholders.
u Lead public engagements and participate in industry-related activities.
u Collaborate with local communities, contractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth operations and alignment with company goals.
Team Development & Leadership
u Recruit, mentor, and develop top talent to support mine and plant construction activities.
u Provide leadership and coaching to foster a high-performance culture focused on safety and efficiency.
u Implement performance assessment systems, compensation frameworks, and a Code of Conduct to drive accountability and excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
u Minimum 15 years of leadership experience in mining, with a focus on open-pit mine development and processing plant construction.
u Proven ability to manage complex field operations and large, multidisciplinary teams.
u Expertise in South American mining regulations and practices.
u Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
u Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
u Experience in mine construction, project commissioning, and managing sustainability initiatives.
u Demonstrated success in leading large-scale infrastructure development projects in the mining sector.
