Associate Director - Innovation
Based: Edinburgh or Glasgow
The Scottish National Investment Bank is seeking an Associate Director who will play a crucial role in driving forward innovation-led investments that support sustainable and equitable growth. We are a mission-driven organisation committed to delivering lasting environmental, societal, and financial impact for the people of Scotland.
As part of the Investment Origination Team, you will identify, structure, and close successful investment transactions, with a particular focus on innovative technologies, products, services, and business models. The role is ideally suited to a dynamic individual with experience in complex investment environments who thrives in a collaborative, solutions-driven team.
We encourage all candidates who believe they can excel in this role to apply, even if you do not tick all the boxes. We value diverse experiences and perspectives, and your unique background could be a great addition to our team. We thrive on collaboration, support flexible working, and aim to build a fairer, more sustainable, and innovative Scotland.
About You
- Demonstrable experience in investing/financing innovation-relevant companies or projects, or relevant experience in the wider investment or commercial industry field.
- Degree qualified in Business, Finance, or a related discipline would be beneficial.
- Professional qualifications (e.g. CA, CFA, ACT) and institutional investment experience in private equity, venture capital, or investment banking, particularly in innovation-focused areas, are highly regarded.
- Practical experience managing transactions from origination through to close, in a transactional/M&A context.
- Experience in impact and sustainable investment techniques is welcome.
- Knowledge of Scotland's innovation ecosystem and market dynamics is desirable.
- Enjoy working flexibly to transaction-driven deadlines in a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading or supporting deals from origination through to structuring and close across a wide variety of innovation-focused investments.
- Collaborating with Investment Risk, Investment Legal, and Impact Assessment colleagues to deliver sound, mission-aligned investments.
- Managing due diligence, financial modelling, and risk analysis; contributing to the structuring of loans, equity investments, or hybrid instruments.
- Drafting and reviewing investment papers and supporting more junior colleagues' development.
- Ensuring appropriate legal documentation is successfully negotiated and concluded in line with governance and policy standards.
- Fostering sustainable relationships within the innovation investment ecosystem in Scotland, including banks, advisers, co-investors, and entrepreneurs.
- Supporting strategic engagements with government and industry stakeholders to advance the Bank's innovation mission.
At the Scottish National Investment Bank, you will find a supportive culture that values your expertise and autonomy, encourages continuous learning, and offers opportunities for meaningful work. On offer is a salary range of £81-95k, depending on your level of experience. In addition, we offer 30 days annual leave plus public holidays, a 12% non-contributory pension and access to our EV Salary Sacrifice and Green Commute Cycle to Work Schemes, volunteer days and much more. We operate a hybrid working model and are very open to discussing flexible working patterns.
If you are eligible under the Disability Confident Scheme, or need any adjustments to support your application, such as information in alternative formats or special requirements to access our buildings, please reach out to us. Our commitment is to provide the support you need to participate fully in our recruitment process.
