This role is crucial in managing and overseeing the accounting operations, ensuring compliance with financial requirements, and preparing for audits. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial reporting, and auditing within the non-profit sector.
Position Summary:
- Helping the Controller and Finance Director manage the accounting operations of the school, including budgets, analysis, auditing, and production of periodic financial reports, including statutory reports to state and federal agencies.
- The Senior Accounting Specialist will work closely with school staff to ensure sound fiscal compliance with budgetary needs and organizational effectiveness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports the tracking and monitoring of the school’s budget across all departments.
- Provides consultative support to department chairs related to budget.
- Participates in the budget development process.
- Assists with preparation for audits.
- Works to reconcile accounting inaccuracies or imbalances.
- Uses QuickBooks and Excel to maintain records and prepare reports.
- General Ledger posting, accounts payable, credit card reconciliation, managing all purchases for the school, and cash and payroll posting.
- Bank accounts & pledge reconciliations, month-end closing, and accounts payable.
- Contributes to the Business office team’s effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, or auditing within the non-profit sector.
- Skills: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Certifications: CPA or similar certification is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- At least 3 years of experience in accounting.
- Work experience in non-profit organizations preferred but not required.
