Payroll Accountant (Contract-to-Hire, Hybrid – Seattle, WA)
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to support accurate and timely payroll processing for a growing organization in Seattle. This is a hybrid, contract-to-hire opportunity offering the chance to transition into a permanent role based on performance and business needs. The Payroll Accountant will work closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, reconciliations, and reporting.

Compensation
$38–$48 per hour, depending on experience
Key Responsibilities
Process bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll accurately and on time
Review payroll data for accuracy, including wages, deductions, bonuses, and taxes
Prepare and post payroll journal entries to the general ledger
Reconcile payroll-related accounts, including taxes and benefits
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
Coordinate payroll tax filings, payments, and year-end reporting (W-2s, W-3s)
Partner with HR on new hires, terminations, benefits deductions, and PTO tracking
Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries
Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation
Assist with process improvements and payroll system enhancements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
3+ years of payroll or payroll accounting experience
Strong understanding of payroll taxes and wage and hour laws
Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, Paychex, UKG, or similar
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)
Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is a plus
Multi-state payroll experience
Experience in a fast-paced or high-growth environment
