LHH Recruitment Solutions has an opening for a Director of Civil Engineering for our client in the Trenton, NJ area to join their Municipal and Land Development Engineering divisions. This is a working hands-on role not just personnel management.

The Director of Civil Engineering is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing all civil engineering operations, including planning, design, project management, and compliance. This position ensures that engineering projects are executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with organizational goals and regulatory standards.

Salary range $160k – 190k

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy

    • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary civil engineering team.

    • Develop and implement strategic plans for infrastructure development and improvement.

    • Collaborate with executive leadership to align engineering initiatives with business objectives.

  • Project Oversight

    • Oversee the design and execution of civil engineering projects including roads, bridges, water systems, and site development.

    • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.

    • Review and approve engineering plans, specifications, and reports.

  • Compliance & Standards

    • Ensure all engineering activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.

    • Maintain and enforce safety standards and environmental regulations.

    • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

  • Team Development

    • Mentor and develop engineering staff through training, performance reviews, and career development planning.

    • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Stakeholder Engagement

    • Serve as a key liaison with clients, government agencies, contractors, and internal departments.

    • Present project updates and technical information to stakeholders and senior leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil engineering, with at least 10 years in a leadership/management role.

  • Proven track record of managing large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Strong knowledge of engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS).

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with sustainable design and green infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with public-private partnerships and government contracting.

  • Budgeting and financial management expertise.

Work Environment:

  • Office-based with occasional site visits.

  • May require travel to project locations and stakeholder meetings.

Pay Details: $160,000.00 to $190,000.00 per year
